Wine Information<\/h5>\n

The Les Ch\u00eanes vineyard is located in the eastern part of the Cumi\u00e8res district, not far from the road to A\u00ff, below the famous Hautvillers Abbey. The plot is ideally situated on a medium slope facing south and has been farmed organically and biodynamically since 1971. Pure chalky limestone lies beneath a thin layer of clay and silt. The Chardonnay was aged for eight months in used barrels and aged sur lattes for three years until disgorged on April 25, 2023, at 0 g\/L. 1,727 bottles and 30 magnums were produced. Due to the late frost in April and the hailstorms in August, this is just half the production of the previous year. <\/p>\n

Nose<\/h5>\n

It is always a special pleasure to taste and drink Vincent Laval’s Blanc de Blancs, Les Ch\u00eanes. The power and elegance, coupled with finesse, precision, and vitality, are always exceptional. The aroma of the Chardonnay is reminiscent of crushed limestone and chalk, mint and verbena, fresh and ripe citrus fruits with grapefruit and lime zest. Everything here seems fresh, urgent, powerful, and energetic. <\/p>\n

Palate<\/h5>\n

This urgency of this still very young champagne\u2014it won’t really come into its own for another five to six years\u2014continues on the palate. The 2019 Brut Nature Les Ch\u00eanes possesses immense power with pulsating energy and minerality, reminiscent of chalk soil dissolved in lemon juice. This means that Les Ch\u00eanes presents itself as a thoroughly dry Champagne \u2013 partly due to the zero dosage \u2013 that seems almost austere in its youth. On the other hand, it also possesses a winey character, like a Burgundy Grand Cru with deep complexity. And like a Grand Cru that you don’t drink in the year of its release, it’s worth putting the Laval aside or decanting it at this stage.<\/p>\n
