The shell limestone plot on Odinstal was planted with Riesling as early as 1996. The harvest in this magnificent piece of nature took place from September 27th to October 8th. Fermentation and aging take place entirely in stainless steel. 5% of the wine is processed in whole bunches. Malolactic fermentation naturally also takes place in these containers. The wine was able to mature on the full lees until July. The Muschelkalk Riesling from Odinstal from 2022 clearly shows the rock on which it grows. Pure Muschelkalk. In its absolute purest form, this is expressed through purism and linearity. Chalk and wet stones initially characterize the nose. The fruit is present, but is dominated by balsamic and ethereal aromas. White peach, nashi pear, and mirabelle plum all smell very restrained. Allspice and fennel seed are all the more convincing, in return. Lemon balm, lemongrass, and coriander smell loud and intense. Parsley and thyme appear alongside it on almost the same level, yet repeatedly underscored by wet stones. Extremely appealing and inviting. <\/p>\n

Palate<\/h5>\n

On the palate, these impressions are then perfected. Sharp as a razor’s edge, it flows precisely and long. Its acid structure builds powerfully, testing its limits. The fruit has little room to develop, as the cool, ethereal aromas shine brightly against this taut acidity. The Muschelkalk reveals a very bright, straightforward minerality. The Muschelkalk Riesling from 2022 is an incredibly consistent Riesling, thriving on minerality, almost salinity, and great elegance. A Riesling full of energy and vibrant mouthfeel.<\/p>\n

The 2022 Riesling Muschelkalk is deep, intense and mineral on the floral, flinty and fruity nose that is reminiscent of green tea and crushed stones. Round and juicy on the palate, this is a medium-bodied, savory and intense yet playful dry Riesling with aromatic fruit and serious mineral and tannic grip with a very good and intense finish. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in October 2024.
