The vineyard came to the Christmanns through an exchange in 2017 after years of conventional farming. The conversion to biodynamics followed immediately. For several years, the wine was bottled as a VDP.Ortswein under the name Neustadt V. The soil consists of shell limestone that formed more than 200 million years ago. The vineyard slopes quite steeply to the south with an incline of up to 50% and lies at an altitude of up to 260 meters. Yields here are only 40 hl\/ha, allowing the grapes to achieve optimal flavour. The juice stood on the skins for several hours, fermented spontaneously and at a relatively warm temperature, and aged in large double-barreled barrels. <\/p>\n<h5>Colour<\/h5>\n<p> Platinum <\/p>\n<h5>Nose<\/h5>\n<p> The 2010 Vogelsang is an energetic, yet dark, cool, citrusy, and iodine-infused wine, with hints of jasmine tea, lime, and lemon mingling with freshly picked garden herbs, blond tobacco, green apple, and a hint of smoke. The result is highly pure, clear, even crystalline. <\/p>\n<h5>Palate<\/h5>\n<p> On the palate, this Gro\u00dfes Gew\u00e4chs appears extremely taut and sinewy, almost stern, with a raised index finger: &#8220;Don&#8217;t open me too soon, give me time, and you&#8217;ll be rewarded!&#8221; However, all the potential for future greatness is already evident. There&#8217;s the immense pressure that a gripping, powerful, and yet completely crystalline acidity brings to the wine. There&#8217;s a light, formative extract, there&#8217;s the electrifying minerality, and the sheer length. There&#8217;s a lot going on here, with a cool, firm, and wild feel in the rock, tobacco, and herbal aromas.
