Here, on the island&#8217;s only southwest-facing plateau, lie five hectares of vineyards and winery, housed in a historic dammuso dating back to the 18th century. The vines are low and freestanding, using the &#8220;Alberello Pantesco,&#8221; a UNESCO-protected cultivation method. In 1984, Marco de Bartoli first bottled his Bukkuram here \u2013 a Moscato Passito that revived the island&#8217;s great tradition. Five years later, Pietranera was created, a dry Zibibbo from terraced vineyards in the north of Pantelleria, characterized by freshness, aromatic intensity, and a distinctive character. Part of the grapes for the Sole di Agosto are harvested in mid-August and dried in the sun for two weeks, while the remainder ripens on the vine until September. After pressing and spontaneous fermentation, the dried grapes are destemmed and added to the must, where they macerate for about three months. The wine then ages for at least six months in oak barrels before being further refined in stainless steel tanks and finally bottled. <\/p>\n<h5>Color<\/h5>\n<p> Intense amber with a satin sheen. <\/p>\n<h5>Nose<\/h5>\n<p> The 2022 Sole di Agosto from Marco de Bartoli seems to burst with Sicilian aromas on the nose: mandarin blossom, orange peel, candied citrus fruits, apricots, and pineapple caramelized in salted butter fill its display. Then the delicate saline notes emerge, a warm sea breeze, a few mussels, more salted butter, and large amounts of lemon curd. Almost a bit naughty on the nose. <\/p>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<h5>Palate<\/h5>\n<p> On the palate, a creamy texture, tartly fueled by citrus oil salvos, green mandarins, orange zest, and lemon blossom water. Always balanced by salty minerality and a touch of smokiness in the overtones. With a generous spoonful of quince jelly on salt-buttered yeast plait, it flows into a long finish.
