Frappato was planted here, and the vines are around 20 years old. The vines here face northeast toward the Iblea hills. The vines are located 200 meters above sea level, on brown, clayey, limestone soil. Beneath, you can find bare rock. The grapes were harvested in the first ten days of October 2022. Fermentation takes place in cement tanks using natural yeasts. The must remains in contact with the must for a full 20 days\u2014including during fermentation. Finally, the wines age for 20 months in oval 20hl cement tanks. <\/p>\n<h5>Colour<\/h5>\n<p> Light ruby red with slight cloudiness <\/p>\n<h5>Nose<\/h5>\n<p> Wild, spicy, and reductive. The Fossa di Lupo doesn&#8217;t even begin to show its hot, dry homeland. It&#8217;s much more reminiscent of a Central European Pinot Noir, making it appear lean and delicate. Aromatically, it also resembles these first impressions. Forest floor, undergrowth, and moss are evident. This continues with pine cones, damp earth, and rosemary. Allspice, juniper, and black pepper fit in perfectly. Dried Mediterranean herbs continue this theme. A hint of sourdough crust gives it a certain depth. The fruit behind it seems rather calm, yet full of depth. Sour cherry, wild raspberry, and rosehip are dominant. Red currant and plum are somewhat subdued. Full of character, fire, and spice. <\/p>\n<h5>Palate<\/h5>\n<p> Here, too, it seamlessly follows the impressions. Juicy, lean, and racy. It is lined with fine tannins. Its acidity is proactive, but not overt. Minerality and grip vie for dominance on the palate. I find this super elegant, in the style of a Morey-Saint-Denis. The spicy, ethereal, and balsamic aromas characterize it again. The fruit is small and present, but never intrusive. Walnut now noticeably gains momentum and lingers on the palate in the finish.
