This single-varietal Cabernet Franc comes from the best plots of the Riparbella vineyards. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 220\u2013250 meters, facing the Tyrrhenian Sea. The vines are 17 years old. The soils are calcareous and rich in clay and pebbles. The manual harvest took place at the end of September, with a first selection in the vineyard. The grapes were gently destemmed to avoid damaging the skins. A second selection followed on the sorting table. Fermentation took place spontaneously in conical oak barrels with temperature-controlled maceration. 30 days of maceration followed with short, regular pump-overs. The wine was then aged for 22 months in small French oak barrels (225\u2013228 l). 80% of the barrels are new. 20% are in their second use. No filtration before bottling. Filling date: October 16, 2020 <\/p>\n

Nose<\/h5>\n

The nose of the 2018 Duemani displays phenomenal concentration and density. Plums, cinnamon-preserved prunes, and blackberries kick things off. This is followed by cassis, elderberry, and raspberry. Beetroot and red bell pepper deliver ripe, vegetal notes. In addition to the aforementioned cinnamon note, cloves, cardamom, and white pepper are extracted from the spice cabinet. Dark chocolate and a small dose of cocoa butter ensure an absolute feeling of well-being. A subtle but distinct note of warm leather, horse saddle, and cigar box transports one mentally to the white horse in Saint-\u00c9milion. Finally, violet floral notes ensure a balanced and versatile aroma of the wine. The nose is endlessly generous and inviting. Warm, yet cool and full of elegance. <\/p>\n

Palate<\/h5>\n

On the palate, it finally reaches its peak. The symbiosis of the greatest aromatic depth with the perfect acidity and very delicate tannins. Full of finesse, cool notes, and elegance. If minerality is perfectly expressed in a red wine, then it is in this Cabernet Franc from Duemani. The intense fruit suddenly seems so feminine and delicate. The taste buds are attacked in parallel on different levels. Wonderful. Acidity and fruit repeatedly appear on the palate. The vegetal notes are pleasant and full-bodied. The finish is characterized by beetroot and bell pepper, along with chocolate and black pepper, as well as floral notes.<\/p>\n

An organic and biodynamic wine, the 2018 Cabernet Franc Duemani presents a thick and nearly impenetrable wall of dark fruit, pressed blackberry, spice, smoky tar and tobacco. This wine shows impeccable aromatic integration with the high notes and the baritone notes delivered in beautiful synchronization. This wine outpaced my initial expectations following my first tasting of this vintage from barrel. The tannins are integrated and there is a sweet, fruity note on the full-bodied close.

The 2018 Duemani, 100% Cabernet Franc, is polished, classy and sensual. It is one of the most polished wines I have ever tasted here. Fine tannins frame a core of red fruit, rose petal, lavender, spice and blood orange. The 2018 is perhaps not as varietally expressive as in some editions, but it more than makes up for that with its grace. There is a feeling of youthful austerity that emerges with time in the glass.
