Colour<\/h5>\n

Muted cherry red with subtle lightening towards the rim. <\/p>\n

Nose<\/h5>\n

The 2020 Sancerre rouge presents itself expressively and fragrantly on the nose, with sour cherries meeting wild raspberries, blackberries, cassis, and blueberries, all delicately and subtly expressed. The fruity notes are accompanied by fine herbs such as thyme, a hint of chervil, and a brilliant floral scent of violets and rose petals. A very stimulating and invigorating opening, which would suit a cooler serving temperature very well. <\/p>\n

Palate<\/h5>\n

Animating and refreshing on the tongue. Distinct mineral notes, a fine herbal spice, and a stimulating acidity dominate the flavour. The juicy fruit pairs wonderfully with herbal dishes and also with fish.<\/p>\n

Usually the Vacheron reds spend a year in bottle before release, but the 2020 Sancerre Rouge tasted so good early on that Jean-Laurent Vacheron released it without the extra age. It’s very pale ruby and rather seductive, offering a round, silken and incredibly elegant style. Undeniably Pinot Noir with its attractive floral and red fruited perfume, alongside savory notes and tea leaf characters. It has a lovely chalky coating and finely textured tannins that will leave you licking the inside of your mouth. Unforced and charming but my only quibble is the rather warming dab of alcohol right at the finish.
