He came to the region in the 1990s and initially worked for Alain Burguet and Vincent Geantet before purchasing his first 0.05-hectare plot in 2001. Today, he cultivates approximately 5.25 hectares, with a particular focus on vine genetics. J\u00e9r\u00f4me Galeyrand works without technological or oenological processes, uses no industrial yeast, glue, or enzymes, and only the necessary amount of sulfur. He believes that producing a great wine requires the combination of three essential elements: great terroir, the vine&#8217;s DNA with its remarkable genetic heritage, and a winemaker who respects all of this. The vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically, are plowed, harvested by hand, and even the lunar cycles are taken into account. Galeyrand&#8217;s vineyards have been certified organic since 2019. The Gevrey-Chambertin comes from the En Billard location near the winery&#8217;s cellar. The vines were planted in 1983. After being hand-picked by a team of experienced colleagues, 70% of the grapes were destemmed, fermented in tanks, and aged for 24 months in used oak barrels containing approximately 25% new oak. 3,170 bottles were produced. <\/p>\n<h5>Colour<\/h5>\n<p> Dark garnet red. <\/p>\n<h5>Nose<\/h5>\n<p> Fragrant and light on the nose, it is underpinned by delicate notes of mild spices and light woody notes. The red fruit also sparkles on the nose, with notes of cherry and wild raspberry, topped with a lilac aroma that lends it a floral touch. Mace, licorice, and clove round out the bouquet.  <\/p>\n<h5>Palate<\/h5>\n<p> On the palate, the 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin En Billard from J\u00e9r\u00f4me Galeyrand is medium-bodied with a finely woven structure and dominant fruit. The dark forest fruit oscillates from raspberry to blackberry and is already very open-hearted. The tannins are more present than in Galeyrand&#8217;s other wines, but still hover in the lower mid-range. The 2022 vintage is surprisingly open and present without concealing its potential.
