Information<\/h5>\n

The Saint-Romain Sous la Velle 2022 comes from the vineyard of the same name near the village and bordering Sous le Ch\u00e2teau to the north. Sous la Velle faces southeast and lies at an altitude of 355 to 380 meters. The vineyard, planted with so-called Colluviosol on Marne-de-Saint-Romain limestone, is planted with 60-year-old Chardonnay vines. The wine is hand-harvested, whole-bunch pressed, and fermented spontaneously in wood. Malolactic fermentation takes place spontaneously in the barrels. Aging lasts for ten to twelve months in a mix of 228-, 350-, and 500-liter barriques and tonneaux, of which no more than 10% are replaced annually. The wine is tasted daily, and the barrels are racked when Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Buisson deems it appropriate. It is fined with bentonite and only very coarsely filtered. Sulfurization only occurs during bottling, with a maximum of 40 to 50 mg\/l total sulfite. The winery is now Biodyvin-certified. <\/p>\n

The Saint-Romain Sous la Velle 2022 delivers an electrifying, bright opening. It smells of limes and lemons, including peels and seeds, smoke and flint, green apple, herbs, and lime. Overlying are notes of white flowers. <\/p>\n

Palate<\/h5>\n

On the palate, the Sous la Velle is energetic, tonic, juicy, and intense. The citrus fruits and green stone fruit are equally present. The fresh character is highlighted by a clear, present, and juicy acidity. The minerality, fed by the old vines, has an electrifying effect. But the tonicity isn’t turned up to the max everywhere. There’s also a subtle wood, smoke, and a fine creaminess in the texture.<\/p>\n

There is fine delineation with neatly integrated oak. The palate is well-balanced, with a tang of orange zest on the entry. This has a silver beard of acidity, lending real tension and matching the impressive depth towards the vibrant finish. Sous Le Velle is often one of the go-to vineyards in Saint-Romain, and this proves exactly why._x000D_
