Product description for Barnert & Drewitz Riesling “Fürst” Limited Edition 2023
The Fürst comes from an old vineyard on the western slope of the Odenwald, not far from the renowned Fürstenlager site. The vineyard is characterized by weathered granite gravel with slate bands. After being hand-picked, the grapes were pressed for 2.5 hours, gently settled for 48 hours, and spontaneously fermented in used 500-liter barrels. They were left on the full lees for seven months. The Riesling was bottled unfiltered at the end of July 2024 and has a total SO2 content of 44 mg/l.
Medium straw yellow
The 2023 Fürst presents itself with a nose that fluctuates between reduction and oxidation, which brings an interesting tension to the Riesling. It has something Jurassic about it, reminiscent of the sweet smell of fire crackers, also of rock dust, of apple, cider apple, and pear, a touch of graphite, wet rock with lichen and tangerine peel.
On the palate, this is a salty, juicy, and silky wine that definitely leaves you wanting more. The fruit of the fresh, mellow stone fruit seems wrapped in silk and cream, the acidity of the granite is ripe, perfectly integrated, and gives the Riesling a rapid flow. The full-leaf aging provided substance, the aforementioned saltiness, but also a delicate sweetness. A complete, exciting, and complex Riesling.
