Im Jahr 1985 schlossen sich mehrere Produzenten zusammen, die der Meinung waren, dass man auch ohne extrem langen Fassausbau in der Region Spitzen-weine erzeugen kann. Unter der Leitung von Juan Carlos L\u00f3pez de Lacalle gelang es, \u00fcber die Jahrzehnte diesen Prozess immer weiter zu verfeinern und beachtliche Erfolge zu erzielen. 2016 entschied man sich aus der DOCa Rioja auszusteigen, da sich die Philosophie zu sehr von dem der Rest der Appellation differenzierte. Auch heute produziert Artadi keine Weine der Ausbaustufen Reserva und Gran Reserva. Dennoch wird auf dezenten Holzeisatz nicht verzichtet, ohne dabei jedoch das Terroir zu \u00fcberdecken Der El Carretil ist wie der El Pis\u00f3n eine Amphitheaterlage auf ca 500 Meter H\u00f6he und dreht von Ost \u00fcber S\u00fcd bis West. Die Lage zeichnet etwas leichtere, kalksteinigere B\u00f6den mit viel Sand aus, also B\u00f6den f\u00fcr feinste Weine. Beides sind extreme Lagen mit extremen Untergr\u00fcnden: El Pis\u00f3n hat mehr Lehm, mehr profunde Kraft, El Carretil mehr Feinheit und Eleganz. Die Reben sind weit \u00fcber 70 Jahre alt. Er besitzt die Eleganz der Sandkomponente der Salag\u00f3n-B\u00f6den. Ich fand diesen Wein sehr pr\u00e4zise und elegant, aus einem Weinberg, der weniger warme Jahre gut vertr\u00e4gt und unter Trockenheit leidet. Der Wein ist jedoch spektakul\u00e4r, ausgewogen und frisch, sehr rein und feingliedrig.
