Product description for Manincor Lieben Aich DOC 2022 (bio)
Info
2022 was a nearly perfect year at Manincor. The year began early and saw scattered rainfall throughout. Sunny days and cool nights characterized the summer. The sun persisted in the autumn, ensuring high physiological ripeness, intense aromas, and a good balance of sweetness, acidity, and potential alcohol. The Lieben Aich vineyard is located in Terlan at an altitude of 300 meters. The warm, airy climate here meets sandy, well-drained soils. Porphyry weathering can be found in the subsoil. The vineyard faces west. In mid-September, golden-yellow grapes full of yellow-fruit aromas and a yield of 39 hl/ha were harvested. The grapes are fully destemmed and macerated in the press for twelve hours. Fermentation takes place spontaneously in wooden barrels, and the wine is aged on the fine lees in large wooden barrels for ten months.
Colour
Bright lemon yellow with green reflections
Nose
Lieben Aich is a breeding ground for great Sauvignon Blancs. Year after year, wines full of depth and length thrive here. Rich yellow fruit flows from the glass. Mirabelle plum, plum, and a touch of grilled pineapple. Peach and passion fruit, along with grapefruit, support the wine. Much more distinctive, however, is its yeasty component, which breathes depth into it. Fresh brioche and plaited yeast with almonds are the result on the nose. But by no means sweet, but rather approached with a much better intention: well-being. It appears stony, chalky, and shows traces of cold smoke. Dried herbs such as marjoram and thyme, as well as fresh chervil, lemon balm, and parsley, imbue it with ethereal freshness. Very delicate aromas of artichoke and fennel, along with savory, shine through. The depth in the nose is also due to the aromas of sencha tea, which have spread subtly and secretly.
Palate
The first sip immediately demonstrates how closely the nose matches the impression of the mouthfeel. Initially, it builds up considerable momentum. Underpinned by a melting texture, this is an easy undertaking for the Lieben Aich 2022 to distinguish itself here. Then its concise acid structure sets in and breaks through this moment, stretching it out. In addition to the acidity, its fine fruit and, above all, the intense herbal aromas that continue to spread shine. The finish then clearly brings to life the sencha tea and nettle.

Score: 89
The 2022 Lieben Aich is smoky, as crushed stones and savory herbs give way to dried apricots and peaches. This displays silky textures and pretty orchard fruits with a minty tinge yet lacks motivating depth. It finishes grippy, with a gentle tension and medium length. The Lieben Aich is a varietal Sauvignon Blanc.
